Fifth-graders at Roosevelt Elementary School recently had a unique opportunity to bring their creativity to life while helping shape a lasting piece of community art. Acclaimed Los Angeles artist Stephanie Mercado visited Roosevelt to collaborate with students, using their artwork as inspiration for a new, community-centered mural that will be featured next to the new Roosevelt Library.

Lawndale, CA — Lawndale Elementary School District’s Community Schools proudly hosted its first Lawndale Grateful Gathering, a vibrant community resource fair that welcomed 269 families—nearly 800 attendees—for a morning filled with essential services, learning resources, and joyful holiday activities. The event brought together a wide network of partners, volunteers, and organizations, all committed to uplifting and supporting Lawndale district families.

Schools across our district embraced the beautiful cultural tradition of Día de los Muertos with creativity and reflection, from gorgeous ofrendas to in-class art projects. From elementary to middle schools, and through the RAP program, our students and staff spent time honoring this meaningful celebration.
